Teepee with Bison
This piece was crafted by Peter Ray James. He takes canvas, sews it together, stuffs it with fiberfill, paints it adding Native symbolism to it. In this way he is telling a story with each piece in addition to decorating it. To the uneducated in Native history, they are beautiful, but to those who understand the symbolism, they each have a unique story to tell. The mountains are depicted across the bottom and they are layered to represent generations ascending to the creator. There are also four pointed stars to represent the four cardinal directions and a bison which is a symbol of life, abundance, and strength. The piece measures approximately 8 by 16 inches.
