Quail

This piece was crafted by Peter Ray James. He takes canvas, sews it together, stuffs it with fiberfill, paints it adding Native symbolism to it. In this way he is telling a story with each piece in addition to decorating it. To the uneducated in Native history, they are beautiful, but to those who understand the symbolism, they each have a unique story to tell. This piece has dragon flies that are symbols of hope as they will always lead one to water. There are also symbols of life, layered mountains and four pointed stars to represent the four cardinal directions. The piece is approximately 10 by 4.5 inches.
